Hi Donna,
As the button says, it is for apps and this means exclusively apps from the app store. An iOS update is not an app hence automatic updates for apps has no effect on iOS updates. If you have space on your device and if you are connected to WiFi new iOS updates do get automatically downloaded to your computer, but they are not automatically installed because it requires agreeing to Apple’s terms and conditions on 2 separate occasions. Hi Sieghard I'm still running IOS 7.1.2. When I go to iTunes & App Store, under Settings; When I swipe down to automatic downloads, I can choose to turn on music, apps, iBooks & updates. I'm assuming that the updates toggle on/off button applies to Apple's downloading the latest IOS version to ones device, being there options to choose to have or not have music, apps & iBooks automatically updated. Am I assuming incorrectly? If my assumption is incorrect, what exactly is the Updates toggle on/off button for? I wasn't implying in my earlier message the latest IOS would be installed. Just that the download would be pushed onto one's device for installation when one is ready to install the update. In fact, if iOS 8 is in fact installed and not just downloaded to her device she or somebody else must have done this deliberately since you have to agree to Apple’s terms and conditions twice before the install actually starts. Sorry, but that’s a definite and it will not install automatically. Hi Perhaps she has automatic updates turned on? This can be found and turned off by going to Settings, iTunes and App Store. With automatic updates turned on Apple forces the update to your device. I don't think that the update is installed unless she accepts the Terms & Conditions Agreement. I could be incorrect on this. I know that I noticed that automatic updates was turned on and updating began on my son's iPod when I plugged in the iPod. I was able to stop the process by unplugging the iPod and turning off automatic updates. She did not buy Apple care for her phone, I did. This morning, she said Apple had pushed through the ios 8 update on her phone, mine is still showing 7.12. Why would this be? She uses screen zoom on her phone, and is now having difficulty adapting to the new unwanted update. I am a voiceover user. To my mind I am not sure it is fair for Apple to insist that everyone load the new ios update. This may be an unfair comparison, but a couple of days ago on my PC, Microsoft pushed through an i.e. 11 update. I use Jaws 14, which does not work well with i.e. 11. I was able to call for free the Microsoft disability support line to walk through removing the update because they understood the negative effect on my screen reader. By comparison, apple charges for their tech support, which my wife does not have, and there is no going back to the previous ios version. I think I like Microsoft’s corporate policy better. Thoughts?
