Hi
And, thanks to some great help, I tried the raise to speak option to record the
message, and that actually did work indeed. So, not being able to use the
button to record the audio is not a big deal, but I wonder if it is only on my
4S or if this is indeed a bug impacting on the 4s in 8.1.1.? Thank you for
always supplying very helpful information.
Regards
Jan

Hi Jan,
OK, I’ll try this one more time: when raise to speak is turned on you do not
have to tap the record button at all. The whole point for raise to speak is
more or less hands free operation, of course it’s not really hands free as you
are holding your phone, but all you do is start a new message, enter the
contact or phone number where you want to send it to and if the Record button
is there which means the other person has iMessage, then all you have to do is
raise the phone to your ear and it should make the little beep indicating you
can now speak. You then speak/record your message and take the phone away from
your ear. This will stop the recording and you will have the buttons on the
screen to play, send or cancel the message. Once again, don’t tap, double tap
or double tap and hold on any buttons, just raise the phone to your ear.

Sieghard

Hi
Thanks for the info. Let me see if I understand this, if "raise to speak"
is on, how do I activate the record button, or does that still need to be double tapped?
If not, I am not too sure how this works, or do you tap and then hold the phone and raise
it to your ear? I agree on the audio quality being poor. A friend sent me an audio
message, and it really does not sound too great. Thanks all the same for the suggestions.

Jan

Hi Jan,
No, you don’t touch the screen at all. If you enable raise to speak the
sensors in the phone will notice when you raise the phone to your ear and
engage the microphone, all you do is put the phone to your ear and speak then
take it away when you are done and the recording will stop. You still have to
tap the Send button,, however, it’s not like Whats App where the message is
sent as soon as you release the record button. With audio messages you have the
option to send the message or play it first if you want to hear how it sounds.
The quality of audio messages in iOS is quite poor compared to Whats App,
the native iOS audio messages sound like the recording on an answering machine.
I’m actually a bit surprised by this and hope Apple will improve the sound
quality in future updates.

Hi
I'll try that, and yes, a restart has been done. Does it mean that you
press and hold the button, then quickly raise it to your ear to record and then
take it away? The time space for doing so is extremely short. Thanks for the
suggestion, will try that.

This should work on a 4S. Have you shut down your phone and restarted it
since the update? If not give that a try. If not you can try to just raise the
phone to your ear as a work-around. On my 5S once I do this I hear the beep and
I can just speak and record my message, once I take the phone away from my ear
it stops.
Oops, almost forgot, I can’t remember if “Raise to speak” is turned on
by default, it is something you can turn on or off. Just go to Settings and
Messages, it’s right towards the very bottom.

Subject: Audio messaging in i-message with the iPhone 4s
Hi
I have now, on Friday, upgraded my 4S to Ios 8.1.1, and for the greater
part it is not doing too bad. I have however tried sending an audio message to
a person which has I-messaging enabled on his Iphone. It does not seem to work
for me though. The audio button is available, but double tapping and hold to
record, just throws me out, an into the edit field, and a second or 2 of audio
is recorded. This happens whether the edit field is in edit mode or not. Is
this function meant to work on the 4S, seeing the button is available, or might
this be a phone specific thing with my device? Can others using the 4S with
the latest Ios update indeed perform this action?
Thanks for any help in the regard.
