Well, the only other thing I can think of is that the ThinkPad isn't trying
to connect to the right port. You should see if you can use nc (netcat,
http://www.l0pht.com/~weld/netcat/) to connect to port 5900 (or which ever
"tty" you are listening on, +5900) on the server, from the thinkpad. When I
try this, I get back "RFB 003.003". Also, you should check to see if you
have "AuthHosts" set to only allow connections from certain machines.
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ORL\WinVNC3\ in the registry).
Also, you could try swapping IP addresses between the two machines (the
working one and the non-working one), and see if that makes a difference.
Here is the URL for the win32 version of VNC server:
http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/winvnc.html
I don't think it's possible for the WinVNC client to not ask for a password.
Try turning on "-logfile filename" (where filename is whatever you want the
logfile to be). I get this as the first 4 lines of logfile when I connect:
---
Connected to tweedledum port 5900
RFB server supports protocol version 3.3
Connected to RFB server, using protocol version 3.3
VNC authentication succeeded
---
You should get the first line when the socket connects, regardless of
authentication. Probably even the first three. If you don't get those,
then the problem is not with your vncviewer.
