one of them  ;^}

using a dbms opens up possibilities like

  several servers sharing use of the same dbms
  so that user attributes may persist across sessions
  at one machine
  and/or across sessions 
  at multiple machines
  (shared gaming spaces is one use 
   which comes immediately to mind)
