<STREAM_OF_CONSCIOUSNESS>
I have the *beginnings* of a presentation about VNet
a quick-hack-not-for-public-view-yet hunk o' text at:
http://ariadne.iz.net/~jeffs/vnet/presentation/
and the
"Future: What are Shared and Collaborative Environments?"
section (while still pretty scattered)
is IMHO germane to our discussion here...
one issue is shared *user* behaviors and states...
when I move over to by the fountain
you all see me move at around the same time...
we have this now
another issue is shared *object* behaviors and states...
when I click on the desklamp
it goes out for everyone...
we do *not* have this now
(it currently just goes out for me)
IMHO
persistence for user states
and persistence for non-user states
are different issues
IMHO
non-user objects should be able to have
a shared state but no persistence...
when the last person logs out
whether the desklamp was "off" or "on"
it will show in the "startup" state in the wrl file
to the first/next person who logs back on
or
a shared state *and* persistence...
when the last person logs out
and then a new person logs on
the desklamp will *still* be in
whatever state it was in
when the last person logged out
