yes, what about a camp fire?

the users come to town square ,pieces of wood are laying here and there.
he starts a fire ,as long as somebody  put some wood once a while the fire
persist
The fire  "lives" just like  a fire in real life
As a visitor comes to town square he can see if people were around recently
