Hi,

The value of the upgrade insurance is quite relative to the size of the customer. The upgrade insurance is good value for someone that has spent $4000 for their unlimited version VopRadius. It isn’t such good value for a $500 small business version. We can argue about the value aspect of the upgrade insurance but this is not really the main issue I have with the change.

My main issue is that continuous upgrade insurance was not previously compulsory. All of a sudden it is compulsory and there has been no advance warning.

Anyway Vircom do not want this matter discussed on this list so I will leave it here and discuss it directly with them.

I agree with Eric.  I have at least a dozen ISP customer that use VOP Radius.  The upgrade insurance is worth every penny.  Why would any company let you buy upgrade insurance after your support contract runs out.  I don't use any other RADIUS package if I can help it.

That makes sense.  I've been buying upgrade insurance

every year since I bought the product (including this

year...about 2 weeks ago).

As for me, I looked at the market and nobody could

touch Vircom for features, reliability (does your RADIUS

*ever* go down??) or service.

The upgrade insurance and other support plans are yearly commitments by our customers. Following purchase, a customer has 30 days to join the upgrade insurance and benefit from future software development.

This practice rewards the loyalty of our customers who stick with us year after year, renewing their upgrade insurance or support plan. It would make no business sense for Vircom to sell a product without a support plan, then, say, 5 years later, sell 5 years of development to that customer for $250.

If you have further comments or questions about Vircom's support plan policy, please email me in private, as discussions of Vircom's business practices do not belong on this mailing list, which discusses technical issues with VOP Radius. I will be happy to assist you and clarify the situation further.

Hi,

I just tried to order the upgrade insurance and was told that it is no longer available. Vircom have discontinued offering it. The cost of upgrading has jumped to 50% of the cost of a new copy and it does not seem to include any support. What is going on? Why the sudden hike in price with no warning?

One of the attractions of purchasing Vircom software has been their excellent support and the availability of reasonably priced upgrade insurance. Seems like these days are over.
