A quick way of seeing if you can get a 1.1 connection is to deliberately go
to  a  site that we _know_ requires 1.1 connectivity and what happens if it
fails.

Try  this  site,  www.stevei.firewall.co.uk.   If you see the goofy message
then   you   have   no   problems   with  1.1.   However  if  you  see  the
Firewall-Networks front page, then indeed, you have a problem...

In   case   you're   wondering   what   this   lunatic's   on   about   ;-)
www.stevei.firewall.co.uk  is  a  name-based  virtual  host  (as opposed to
IP-based)  and  hence only browsers (and intermediate proxies) that support
HTTP/1.1 can view it.
