We all know that piracy of s/w is theft and illegal, which
means, if caught, you can be arrested, sued, and whatnot. Be-
cause it is so rampant, we discuss it adnauseum, and then
bemoan the excuses authors of Amiga software use to no longer
write their programs.

What is truly interesting here, is that the only people who
get into such discussions are probably the ones who never pur-
posely infringe on s/w rights. But what is more interesting,
is that, many of these same citizens would think nothing of
using a boss's internet connection, as though it were his or
her own, and spend much time on the Internet, as though they
were connected to their own ISP.

How do I know this? It is amazing how many people, even in
today's world, where so many have their own Internet capable
computer, and with some truly free ISPs, still around, will
not only just go online, only when at work, but will treat it
as though they were doing is from their home. They do not
have a clue that, unless their boss has given them explicit
permission to do what they are doing, they are stealing from
their boss, and can be fired, and not be elibible to Unemploy-
ment Incurance, and then be sued by their boss, or arrested
for theft.

When you confront someone, about this aspect, you, usually,
get a reply, "Who cares? Everyone does it. Why shouldn't I?"
Then you might find out that the person never considered get-
ting his or her own ISP, because he or she did not want to
even spend a local telephone call to hook up with an ISP, let
alone pay for an ISP. If you doubt me, ask some of your friend
where and how they got their E-Mail addresses.

What is sad about this are the numerous times I was ridi-
culed for not being online. Then, when I was able to do it, I
found out that a large segment, of them, never connected except
at work, using their boss's stuff. It turned out that these
people thought that everyone worked for a boss who was con-
nected to telecommunication, so thought that I was silly to
not use what was available to me, too.

As said, I would be interested to learn how many, who are
active on the I/N, are using their employer's connection,
rather than getting their own.

Sorry about this further OT, but, it is the natural exten-
sion to the current thread.

                                    Regards,

                                    Julian.
