sophisticated  means something like filetype recognition. HOW that is done
is another issue altogether... i believe in a single pass systsm which records
the file-type ina  .filetypes file in the directory. if new files
are in that directory they get added.... if they get deleted, they get removed.

just using a filename extension to say what type of file it is  is basic,
crass and rude. 

certainly, in this case, the method of the '80's microcomputer' beats
the method of the main system of the new millennium

once again...the 80's machine wins out by giving you choice everytime.
do you really want images/ documents/movies to go into  'My Documents'?
or , even worse, downloaded to 'my desktop' ? :-(

Voyager has already got this capped nicely with the mime-types system
which allows different filetypes to be downloaded automatically
to different directories. instead of always putting downloads into
the default location (and the annoying directory changing shuffle
that requesters always bring upon you)
