What is the equivalent to "get latest version" from vss in subversion?
To get a new working copy, "check out" from the repository. Don't confuse
this with checking out in VSS. In VSS, that means that you're locking the
file to prevent others from modifying it. In SVN (and CVS before it),
"checking out" means to set up a new local working copy. No locks are
acquired.
Once you have a working copy, you can update to the latest code with "svn
update". This brings your code up to date, and merges others' edits into
your local changes.
Here's a table showing the jargon in the two systems, extracted from a Word
"quick start" document:
VSS | Subversion
Check Out | Get lock
Set Working Folder + Get Latest | Check out
Get Latest | Update
Check In | Commit
Show History | Show Log
