Yes, it seems that one of the most difficult concepts of Subversion
for previous VSS/PVCS users is that not only does checking out *not*
lock the repository, but Subversion keeps absolutely no track of who
has "checked out" code. Under the copy-modify-merge model, that
doesn't matter until it's time to commit your changes. I don't know
how many times my boss has come to me and asked "can we get a list of
everyone who has checked out this code?" (Well, I suppose I could
start grepping the Apache logs, but I'm not gonna open that can of
worms!)
I think a "SVN for Former VSS Users" FAQ would be useful. Most answers
could just be links to existing content/pages.
Q. How do I convert my repository?
Q. How do I deal with shared files?
Q. How do I "get latest"? I don't want to "checkout"!
Q. If files aren't locked how do we work together?
Q. How do I label?
How do I share a file between directories ? ;-)
