Excerpts from the latest iinet newsletter:

Contacting us?
==============

If you have recently called or emailed us you may have had to wait
awhile before getting through to our support staff. Due to the huge
success of bliink, and the popularity of iiNet services in general,
our customer service centre hasnít been able to grow fast enough to
keep up with demand. The increased volume of calls has also caused
some technical problems in our Telephone System (PABX).

ADSL Exchange Faults
====================

iiNet have recently discovered a problem with certain exchanges around
Perth and Queensland.

This problem has some very simple symptoms:

… Can't connect and obtain an IP fine.

… Can't ping IP addresses and host names.

… Can't get the first 8k of your e-mail inbox before it times out.

… Unable to browse to web sites.

If this sounds familiar, then this link is for you!

Should you have any further problems please contact our customer consultants
on 13 22 58.

Electrical Storms and Modem/Router Damage
=========================================

With the beginning of winter iiNet would like everyone to be aware of the
risks of lightning damage to their modems or routers.

Modems and routers are very susceptible to electrical damage and these charges can
travel down both the power and telephone lines. If you power and telephone
line is not protected from a power surge we recommend that you physically
unplug the modem from the wall during an electrical storm.

When you purchase a telephone surge protection please ensure that it supports
your ADSL connection.

You may wish to consult your Home & Contents Insurer if your modem or computer
is damaged by a lightning strike .

ADSL Fault Management
=====================

As part of iiNet's continuous improvement strategy, we are currently updating
the way ADSL fault updates are handled.

In accordance with this new procedure, when an ADSL fault has been resolved,
the effected clients will be notified by a short sms message.

FOr example:

"iiNet notification regarding user <joebloggs>.
ADSL fault number 1234567 is fixed.
Call 13 22 58 should you have any queries"

To assist us in the implementation of this new feature we would appreciate if
you could update your mobile telephone details by visiting:

https://toolbox.iinet.net.au/

Whilst you are there why don't you check that we have all of your correct details?

Updates on Network Status
=========================

If you are interested in keeping up-to-date with iiNet's Network Status you
might find this link handy:

http://www.iinet.net.au/fault/fault.cgi

This will give you a list of iiNet services, if there is a problem with one
of these services a fault number will appear next to it. The helpful
legend at the bottom of this page will show you the degree of this fault.

If you then click on the fault number, it will give you comprehensive
information on the problem, and an expected time of completion.

Or if you are effected by a Telstra fault you may find this link helpful:

<http://telstra.com/servicestatus/status.asp?product=16&productname=T elstraWholesaleBroadband#scheduled>

This link will give you detailed information on any known faults or planned service outages.

We hope you find these links helpful and informative.
