An extra clue on this. I've just noticed that when I do a backup from the MBP, apart from my TC disk image showing, another disk image comes up named Boot OSX. I don't think I've seen that before. On closer inspection of the Data folder on the TC, I see that there are three sparsebundle files for my MBP. Does that help??
