Yeh I had an idea those applets didn't have that option to change.
Did you try using it in another User account? (as per one of those links I sent 
as a few others found it sometimes worked, when then meant ruling out 
preferences etc.

What setting are you running in "Gatekeeper" as well (i.e. from the other email 
I posted with the Security feature in System Preferences).

Let us know on the above and then can see what else could be.
