I never said I would revert it, I just don't see a need for it.

The whole point of the DI routines *was* to make it _more_ stable.
Right now, people would crash or have other weird behavior because we
couldn't check the data before.
In this sense, it IS a bugfix.  It just happens to require everyone to
upgrade, which is not unreasonable or bad practice IMO.
