If you have cookies enabled, you can set Google to open pages in new window - just go to "preferences" (middle link on the right of the search box), and check the "Open search results in a new browser window" box at the bottom of the page. You can also set the number of results you want displayed per page, which I find very helpful. I know this does not help with all the "sticky" and slow pages, but at least it should help when you Google!
