It's been awhile since this happened (2002) so I may not have all the
details quite correct but I got a lemon Dell Latitude C640 on the first
ship.  Among my chats with various people at Dell that I recall, there was
mention that if the computer was within a 30-day time frame from when it was
built and delivered, the handling and replacement procedures were a little
different.  I went back to sales and after they confirmed that the computer
was fried (something with motherboard), they had me re-order the computer
and they replaced it.

You might try going back to the sales people and throwing a temper tantrum,
so to speak.  It was very important that all this happen within the 30-day
period.  After that the procedures were different.
