Ok,
I set WOOutputPath to write to my home directory, but it didn't
create any log files. Is this a permissions issue? I tried chmod
777 on my home dir but am still not seeing anything. What's the
usual place to write these types of log files to?

That works, but it won't do you any good. :-) That is the
woadaptor log. You want your app's log. The path for this is
configured in JavaMonitor.
If by die you mean the process stops, the most likely cause is
OutOfMemory.
If by die you mean it stops responding, deadlock is the most likely
cause. Get a thread dump when it locks to diagnose that.
