other than the os, the system has the same setup (db, frameworks, app version, etc). osx runs with mod_WebObjects and win uses the generic cgi.

this is the thing, i remember that the cgi used to have difficulty reseting it's timeout for concurrent requests coming from the same instance, so for the cgi this in essence would make ajax requests seem like a really long request for the adaptor. which doesn't really help me much. the hostname stuff checks out ok, and the apps work as such, it's just this funny condition that pops up a little too often at the moment, like once or twice a day. then all the apps exhibit this symptom. it's not a db deadlock since i can still access the db and make changes, just every tenth click i get a ranfots
