hi All

I've been deploying on Windows for a while

I am so very sorry to hear that.

but recently (a lot more traffic) the CGI Adaptor on the server started to act up.
The WebServer is Apache 1.3.
The reason i think it's the adaptor is when i get some traffic going on the sites applications start to return RANFONTS (Requested Application Not Found On This Server)

That does sounds like an adaptor problem, possibly with communicating with wotaskd.

Have you tried to turn on adaptor logging? Windows.... Hmmmm... I think you create a text file named logWebObjects in C:\Temp and, later, look for WebObjects.log in that directory. That should provide some clue as to what specifically is happening.

See Logging and Analyzing Adaptor Activity here:
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/LegacyTechnologies/ WebObjects/WebObjects_5/DeployingWebObjects/Administration/ Monitoring_Activity.html

It usually happens that an admin is editing the back end which uses a fair amount of Ajax, but nothing crazy and then RANFONTS appears. When i run JavaMonitor in another Tab it too gets RANFONTS, so i think the Adaptor is choking on something.

wotaskd it sounds like. You could try giving it more memory. I have seen problems with OS X where all the ports/file handles are occupied and that makes wotaskd choke. Windows may have a similar problem.

The test server running OSX doesn't display this problem even when i simulate high traffic.
So i have several questions:
Does anyone have experience with this setup?

No.

Is Apache/Win/CGI just plain bad?

IMHO deployment _anything_ on Windows is a Bad Idea.

I'd rather not uninstall Apache, is there a way to get the Apache Plugin to run on Windows?

I thought someone had done this long ago.
