OK, so the site is up and running on my machine, I went to zoneEdit.com and pointed a domain I have to my external ip, and changed my dns from register.com to zoneEdit, downloaded DNSUpdater to point to that domain on ZoneEdit for dynamic DNS. I then made sure that the FIOS router was passing though port 80, and that the linksys router I also have is passing through port 80 (I think) and set a static ip under dhcp for the server . . . pointing the linksys router's port 80 to that ip (the linksys is the router directly connected to the server, and the linksys is next downstream from the FIOS router).
I tried to access the domain, and the server could not be found. I did whois and it returns the proper zoneEdit dns So, I assume the apache configuration setup to do the deployment serves the site up over port 80, and the fact that I can't see the site means there is some completely unrelated internal networking issue? If so, I guess I'll spend all afternoon fighting with Verizon Fios customer service. On the upside, my current flurry of wo deployment messages should end for the time being.
