Other have noted problems with some of those items. For me, the buttons don't work at all. They don't belong and look terrible. If they're important then they should be put into the overall site navigation (that's what they are, really). We already have primary navigation links in the left panel, and two sets of navigation across the top of the page. We really don't need another bunch. Please don't. I think the text blocks want beefing up, if anything. When people hit the home page, we have one good chance to get 'em hooked. Hiding it all away isn't good. What goes in at-a-glance? If it's news and updates, then the name doesn't work.
