In that case I'm fine.
But probably the removing tag should also be named differently; based on your
descriptions it has rather little to do with remove_shroud, so to make clear
it's different.
wml syntax suggestion then:

[/lift_fog]
[reset_fog]
[filter_side]
#SSF

Or perhaps clear_fog and unclear_fog if you think that it matches more what
the tags do or they are straight replacements for the macros.
The extra tag is not nice, but redundant side information syntax or a SSF at
the same level as a SLF are worse.
