SDL_net is still required by campaignd, wesnothd, and the wesnothd client code (the campaignd client uses Boost.asio since 1.9.x). SDL_ttf continues to be used by GUI0/GUI1 code, which hasn't been completely phased out due to certain current GUI2 deficiencies. IIRC when I asked boucman about the particle engine project he said the code wasn't really good or complete enough for merging into mainline. -- Regards Ignacio R.
