Actually, I'm pretty close to completion. If things go well, I'll be able to finish my work by next Monday.

There has been pretty much no relevant activity in this thread since it was started other than lipk and fabi's posts, but given those and their commit activity since then, my impression is that a feature freeze on 1.11.8 is considered to not be feasible?
