It is placed below the surname template and therefore should not affect it - but it does, listing Elisabeth under "C". In the surnames category we want people listed by first name (i.e. pagename). I mentioned it a few weeks ago on the genealogy mailing list. Some kind person tweaked something so that the other reported malfunction of DEFAULTSORT was fixed.
