FWIW: Memory card types change so quickly I would not
get all bogged down on that... A good USB single type convertor
would be good for most people and they cost around $10(US).
(I have a USB reader that does all sorts of cards, but it has four
multi-use slots and I can't imagine that built-in a laptop...)

I have no feel at all for what to get, or not to get. I know it's a
silly question, but I have not shopped for a long time.
This is a "going to college" GP laptop, for a young lady, with no
extreme requirements. Should be <$1000 and should have DVD burner
and multi memory card reader, WiFi adapter. I think cordless mouse
would have to be bought separatly.
