Hi Don, while Wheezy does identify itself as 7, it is still not released, and i doubt it will be anytime soon. Also, please be aware that kernel version 3.8-trunk for any architecture is indeed from the Debian experimental branch, as explained in the wmlive release notes.
I have not tested wmlive in any way with VMware, so i fear you are on your own here. In any case, if kernel 3.8-trunk does not work, please just try the 3.2 wheezy kernel, instead. It is already installed in parallel, as it was also used to bootstrap the installation. You might like to try with Virtualbox instead, which has received at least some basic testing during the development of wmlive and appears to work just fine.
