Commander is not going to split mode automatically. Trying fake it with commander is not switching frequencies either. The only commands I see commander reacting to is when I check mark or uncheck the box next to CQ Rx 285. The radio vfo goes to 50285 when checkmarked and back to 50280 when unchecked.
With WSJTX controlling the radio, fake it mode is making the vfo switch to the proper tx frequency. I think WSJTX controlling the radio is doing what it should. You didn't confirm if Commander went to split mode, that would help to isolate the issue.
