So, back to the practical matter of getting the time right faced with lack of
WWV/WWVH, no GPS NMEA sentences to plunder, no superlative chronometer to
reference.
Here's something that you can try --- turn off time sync on your computer. Stop
any WSJTX app you have running. Go into control panel, or use a adminified
command prompt to get ready to set your computer time to some minute or 0:30
boundary (the HOURS and MINUTES DON'T MATTER). Listen to the WSJTX frequency,
and when you hear everyone start transmitting, set your time to the 00 or 30.
Does decode still work for you?
My hands-on investigation yielded that decodes worked when:
- I was ABOUT 2 minutes fast on my PC clock.
- I was ABOUT 3:15 fast on my PC clock.
- I was ABOUT 3:30 minutes fast on my PC clock
(don't forget to stop and restart WSJTX each time you change the time)
Empirically, it appears that the time sync is important so you're able to hear
most of the beginning of 15 second transmission interval. However you do it.

You’re right. In that regard, depending on the circumstances, digital modes
might not be ideal, especially because the transmissions can be long.

I would stay off the air. No need to alert people to where supplies are!
