Because I think it's wrong to let users limit their system to 1.0, so I'm against making this easy. All sorts of people misled by people like Elliotte will turn this on without understanding what it means.

We give users other potentially problematic features with the assumption that they must know what they're getting themselves into before they use them. I don't see a problem with this approach as long as the default is set to encourage "the right thing".

But I'm strictly against deciding for users what they
should and should not be doing. If there's a real user
need (and I think there one in this case) then we
should provide a solution.

All of this should be taken with a grain of salt,
however. There are reasons such as performance impact
that may rule out implementing certain features (e.g.
editor-only functionality that greatly degrades the
parser for all other users).
