I've set it as esound, esd, localhost, mutt (the name of this machine; my other one is jeff *tee hee*), all capital letters, and everything else that I can think of. And no joy. I've been trying to guess the name using the --server= option of esdctl and get either "Can't resolve host name whatever" or nothing at all, depending on what I put in for the server name. But esdctl allinfo still responds just fine with all of the info EXCEPT the default hostname. I can't find anything in the esound documentation, either locally or on the web page. fuser -v /dev/dsp gives me nothing at all. I've spent the past hour racking my brain, doing web and newsgroup searches, and fanning through manuals to avoid having to post this (probably dumb) question.
