Not before two weeks. It's still in the planning stages. I have the cabinet and that's about it!
If you've got the cab, that's a good start. I just ordered parts from happcontrols, and recently sprung for a trackball with built in USB controls. Works great!
Most likely a monitor. The arcade monitor seems like a PITA to me. Besides, I thought about buying a LCD flat-screen to keep the weight of the cabinet down as it weighs a ton already! Can anyone comment about playing MAME on an LCD vs CRT?xv works well, but they recently changed the call for fullscreen with it, so I'm back to DGA. I use gxmame as a front end, it's great. gxmame doesn't support the new call yet. If you are planning to go the X route that is. I'd be more than happy to give you my XF86Config-4 file too.
I also have the thing wired to my light switch, so when i turn on the switch the computer boots. You have to disable APM in the kernel, and turn on an option in the bios to enable reboot after power outage. All my ROM files are stored on my mac desktop, and are automounted by NFS with a wireless connection. This has worked really well, but some of the larger games take a long time to load, so I'm thinking about giving my hard drive an update, as it's only 3 gigs or so. Then just rsyncing the directories.
I set up gdm to have me automatically log in, and my window manager is just gxmame :-)
I'm not sure how advanced you are on setting up linux boxes, so some of the more general non-MAME stuff should probably be kept off the mailing list. I'd be happy to help you out with some of that stuff (when time permits). Just email me off the list.
