Spass,

Thanks for clarifying. Now I can not rush to upgrade. It's a big job for me
because I elect to re-install to effect as upgrade. And, may take the
opportunity to upgrade hardware.

Yes, you'll get the security updates from the mainline Ubuntu still (Xubuntu
has the same repositories), but Xubuntu (and mostly Xfce) specific packages
won't be updated any more. The risk that those packages have some sort of a
major bug or a security flaw is small, but you still should be aware of that
risk.

Also, you'll no longer get a support through the official Xubuntu channels
(e.g. IRC, mailing lists) regarding the Xubuntu / Xfce specific issues. The
response would probably be something like "upgrade to the newest LTS".

Xubuntu Team will be focused on the current and future releases.

Hope that helps a bit.

Spass.

I get confused about what happens when Xubuntu support ends. If I read
correctly, that is before Ubuntu end-of-life for a release. For example, Ubuntu
16.04 LTS is supported until April, 2021. Xubuntu is said to be supported until
April, 2019.

Is it that the Xubuntu team stops working on 16.04 in April. But, that updates
to *Ubuntu* are still available? Can one depend on downloads from Ubuntu's
servers for security updates but that Xubuntu bugs will no longer be fixed?

Please clear up the confusion. If I don't upgrade immediately to 18.04, what
are the consequences? I am still in no hurry to do this upgrade, given what I
read in release notes and given the experience of others.

Thanks.
