There are several xorg.conf options to handle EDID read failures but the easiest is to capture the EDID on a setup that works (nvidia-settings, Acquired EDID) and point the driver to this file. Example entry in the xorg.conf nvidia Device section: Option "CustomEDID" "CRT-0:/etc/X11/edid.bin"
