How far back? I have reports of some panels where EDID could be read
with the 100.14.19 driver, but then could not starting with the R173
drivers.
Can you try either:
Loading the 100.14.19 driver if it supports you GPU?

Enabling full debug with the driver you have:
# mkdir -p /etc/dt/config
# cp /usr/dt/config/Xservers /etc/dt/config
# <edit> /etc/dt/config/Xservers
To the command line at the bottom add " -logverbose 6"
# pkill -HUP dtlogin
Restart your desktop and then send me /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
