thanks. Actually it does not lock down, its just sloowww
After starting gdm or Xorg using 256.35 the machine is 
slow and non responsive. I cant see anything on my screen
but I can ping and ssh. ssh seems stuck, ping work 
miserable:

64 bytes from 192.168.1.31: icmp_seq=1. time=43.175 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.31: icmp_seq=2. time=36.471 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.31: icmp_seq=3. time=29.786 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.31: icmp_seq=4. time=23.021 ms

I will send you in a bit the logs.
