Hey George, This is Nick from del.icio.us. First of all, you should know that deleting bookmarks from firefox with the new extension installed will also delete the bookmark from del.icio.us, as it's a bidirectional sync, not a download. I do hope that you give it a whirl after the bookmarks are downloaded, in particular there are features like adding tags to the bookmark toolbar, and the typedown search which make finding and accessing your bookmarks from within FF much easier than before.
Also, there is a version of the original extension for FF2, and you can install that if you wish.
