I know I am very new to the project, but this is something I had in mind when I decided to join the team. I was going to wait, but this seems like the time to bring up these ideas.

Points to Discuss
-------------------------
1) Should QtParted be used or do we have to have our program to perform the
partition setup?

QTParted does the job, but its hardly user friendly compared to many tools - e.g the Mandriva one. If YIS can include something better than QTParted, then go for it I say :) But for simplicity, QTParted already exists and works - albeit a little complex for new users.

At some point I was hoping to begin work on LVM2 support for the future, but would it make sense to implement LVM by default for YIS-2? We could create two partitions /boot and a physical volume partition that takes up the rest of the disk. We create the root volume group and then slice it up into logical volumes using the LVM tools. Since they are fairly simple commands, we should be able to build the installer around that instead of using QTParted. However, this is assuming the user is willing to allocate an entire disk to yoper instead of a win/linux dual boot system. Personally I think supporting dual boot is a waste of the teams valuable time, but I understand some are not ready to make the complete leap. Maybe keep the QTParted option (for advanced/dual boot users) and the LVM configuration by default. Then since YIS will be like YAST, give an interface to increase the size of the Logical volumes/Filesystems so that we can create the LVs at a size large enough to complete the install and allow the user to increase their space as needed with a simple interface. I always laugh when Fedora uses LVM to create one big logical volume "/" that takes up the whole disk. The idea of being able to increase the size of the LVs is so that you only use what you need. With partitions, you often run out of home space and realize that there is a lot of wasted space in / or in /var that you could have used instead but it's too late.

2) Should we support the installer being loaded in modes 800*600 or
1024*768 or any one?

If its easy to do, then yes :) More user friendly if there is a choice of install resolutions.

I would also like to see language choices here.

My Yoper/Dev laptop I bought only does 800*600 so my vote is to allow it. :-)

3) Do we need to add support for /usr, /var , /tmp etc., separate
partitions support or stay as how we do now?

Minimum choice would be /, normal choice would be /, home and swap.
Depending on the complexity of setting this up, it may be useful to have an advanced setup, which offers more choices, e.g var, usr etc. I personally usually go with /, home and swap.

Look forward to seeing the next release of YIS - its a neat tool :)

See above. I think slicing it up into /usr /var /tmp will be good for users if they can add more space using LVM. Otherwise we could get the amount of necessary space wrong for users and not have a way for them to fix it. (i.e. too much /var space and not enough /home space)
