Anthony,
Some or many Zen teachers, some or most of the time, may tend to say anything they please, knowing that students will interpret their cute off-the-cuff nonsense to be profound non-rational wisdom they are not ready to grasp. This tactic on the part of these teachers may be viewed as 'expedient means'. If the student has faith in Zen practice, he/she should just shut up and sit. -ED --- In [email protected], Anthony Wu <wuasg@...> wrote: > > Siska, > > In many zendos, you take a vow to 'save all sentient beings' while practicing zazen. One of my teachers say that you own enlightenment is the same as 'saving all sentient beings'. I still don't understand his word even now. > > Anthony ------------------------------------ Current Book Discussion: any Zen book that you recently have read or are reading!
