Now, now, point well taken, Edgar.
But I've had various teachers, not just one; they are now all dead.
I'm not likely to forget the old fellers.
They continue to teach, at least as far as the technical points of the methods
are concerned, and their kind hearts. These are the things I have promised to
pass on, as a dharma-teacher who has NOT received transmission. Also, there
are ways of working with people that only a Zen teacher is good at, and I hope
to be able to help people along those lines, too, in a new sangha here.
I don't mean here on the Forum! But it might happen accidentally.
Aitken was not my teacher, but he made our teacher Pat Hawk Roshi, who just
passed away. Aitken's words are close at hand because I spent 22 years in a
Diamond Sangha affiliate sangha (Tucson's Zen Desert Sangha was in fact the
very first affiliate sangha of the Diamond Sangha in Hawai'i, so we had deep
roots, there).
My principal teacher nonetheless has remained Sheng Yen (deceased).
I think Sheng Yen would not have found fault in Aitken's words, tho'.
Just plain greetings, ;-)
