What is it they say? "To understand everything is to forgive everything."

In general, most of the problems arising from our technology altering the
world were from us doing things we thought appropriate - having kids,
discovering faster ways to move about, building housing for people, growing
crops, that sort of thing. It may have had unexpected consequences which
we now have to deal with, but (without arguing that people aren't at times
lazy stupid and greedy) there's nothing in our pattern of habits that keeps
us from altering our behavior now. Global warming has a pretty straight
forward physical cause - we tend to be good at fixing simple problems like
this without changing our mosaic of
lazy/stupid/greedy/hardworking/brilliant/generous nervous systems (once we
perceive the problem, at least - if we didn't procrastinate, we'd be
launching star ships and living in a time of plenty instead of cleaning up
landmines and CO2 etc.).
