Well, to use Zenoss, you're going to want to get very familiar with
Linux if you want to extend it or troubleshoot any. I'd try CENTOS5.2
myself. You'll also need to gain a passing familiarity with SNMP.
When you add a Windows device, did you configure/install the SNMP
component on Windows (And the add in SNMP Informant)? You need to allow
the Zenoss IP to connect, you also have to set the community the same as
what Zenoss is using.
For Win Services, you'll need to get an account with Admin privs on the
Windows box, (you can search the forums for info on more restricted
accounts, but for simplicity, admin will work) and will need to put in
your account credentials in the /Devices/Server/Windows zProperties.
For more step by step, you'll want to read the Admin guide, and maybe
get the Zenoss book.
