I am not sure if you know Amanda well enough...

Amanda either uses ufsdump or GNU tar.

ufsdump is unable to backup ZFS and GNU tar is extremely unreliable.
In addition, GNU tar is unable to archive more than the historical
UNIX meta data of a file.

Last night, I received a mail from the Amanda people and it may be 
that in future Amanda will support star too.

Meanwhile, you cannot really use Amanda to backup ZFS.
