Bug#1038068: linux-image-6.3.0-1-amd64: vlc+dvb freezes when changing channels (systemd-shutdown hangs then due to VLC)
Package: src:linux Version: 6.3.7-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? using VLC + dvb (em28xx) * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Open VLC, first dvb channel play just fine, change to whichever other channel freezes VLC to the point to not be able to kill it. You can close it when opening it using a terminal. But still then the system will hang on shutdown twice. First with the sessions manager for 3 minutes, then with systemd- shutdown service endlessly. You need to hard resett. * What outcome did you expect instead? Change Channel and play it. Please note: VLC+dvb work fine with Debian Kernel 6.1.0 VLC+dvb work fine with siduction-Debian Kernel up to 6.3.7 VLC+dvb do not work and freeze like above with Debian Kernel 6.3.0 VLC+dvb do not work and freeze like above with siduction-Debian Kernel up to 6.3.7 For the record, although my observations do not suggest nvidia is involved: All those Kernels, pure Debian or Siduction, showing or not showing the above problem, need a patched nvidia driver for the kernel module to build properly. Currently only siduction provides a patched nvidia version which works fine on pure Debian kernels. If there is anything I can help with solving the problem let me know. Maybe some infor after I bring VLC to freeze? Let me know what to do to provide helpfull information. Bug#867667: xsane: Preview window empty/unusable (maybe DE related)
Package: xsane Version: 0.999-12 Followup-For: Bug #867667 Hi After some more research it seams this bug could be somehow DE related: I normaly work in a fluxbox environment. And so I did today when I hit this bug (not for the first time!). As I was in a hurry with some documents I had to scan, I installed an other scanning application (simple scan) which did the job. On the same HW and same installation I later switched to a different WM/DE: lxqt When I started xsane while running lxqt, the preview window opened for a fraction of a second, but closed instantly. I could reopen it and it worked as it should. Even after closing and reopening xsane, the preview window opened and stayed open from now on. It even worked after a reboot. And, to my surprise, it now works in fluxbox, too. As if there never was a bug. Bug closed? NO! This malfunction occurred over the last two years again and again 9 out of 10 times I wanted to use xsane. And it is not clear why it happens and when it will happen again. -- System Information: Debian Release: bookworm/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 5.18.2-4-siduction-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_PROPRIETARY_MODULE, TAINT_OOT_MODULE Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages xsane depends on: ii libc62.33-7 ii libgimp2.0 2.10.30-1+b1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.72.2-2 ii libgtk2.0-0 2.24.33-2 ii libjpeg62-turbo 1:2.1.2-1 ii liblcms2-2 2.12~rc1-2 ii libpng16-16 1.6.37-5 ii libsane1 1.1.1-5 ii libtiff5 4.4.0-2 ii sensible-utils 0.0.17 ii xsane-common 0.999-12 ii zlib1g 1:1.2.11.dfsg-4 Versions of packages xsane recommends: ii chromium [www-browser] 102.0.5005.61-1 ii cups-client 2.4.2-1 ii falkon [www-browser]3.2.0+dfsg1-2 ii firefox [www-browser] 100.0.2-1 ii lynx [www-browser] 2.9.0dev.10-1 ii vivaldi-snapshot [www-browser] 5.3.2679.50-1 ii vivaldi-stable [www-browser]5.3.2679.51-1 ii w3m [www-browser] 0.5.3+git20220429-1+b1 Versions of packages xsane suggests: ii cuneiform1.1.0+dfsg-9 ii gimp 2.10.30-1+b1 ii gocr 0.52-3 ii gv 1:3.7.4-2+b1 pn hylafax-client | mgetty-fax ii ocrad0.28-2 -- no debconf information

Bug#1009322: reportbug-gtk: sending bugreport via Debian mail fails
Package: reportbug-gtk Version: 11.4.1 Severity: serious Justification: unusuable Dear Maintainer, *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? I tried to file a bugreport against a debian 5.17. trunk kernel. When *finished* I wanted to send it via the configured mail provider (debian). But it failed (as did nearly all bug reports within the last year or so). Additionally the then generated temp file containing the report now cannot be opened again for whatever reason. This is frustrating for whoever tries to provide usefull info. I am NOT going to write several wishbugs now. It is OBVIOUS that, if the mail fails, reportbug has to go back to the previous menu to then allow one of the other options. Otherwise you (we?) lose reports and people who want to participate. I append the (corrupted?) tmp file with the bug report against the 5.17 trunk kernel. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I wanted to send a bug report (about 5.17-trunk kernel), but reportbug prevented me from doing so. -- System Information: Debian Release: bookworm/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 5.17.0-trunk-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_PROPRIETARY_MODULE, TAINT_OOT_MODULE, TAINT_UNSIGNED_MODULE Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages reportbug-gtk depends on: ii gir1.2-gtk-3.0 3.24.33-1 ii gir1.2-gtksource-4 4.8.3-1 ii gir1.2-vte-2.910.68.0-1 ii python3-gi 3.42.0-3 ii python3-gi-cairo 3.42.0-3 ii python3-gtkspellcheck 4.0.5-2 ii reportbug 11.4.1 reportbug-gtk recommends no packages. reportbug-gtk suggests no packages. -- no debconf information reportbug-linux-image-5.17.0-trunk-amd64-20220411200412-9nrx78r9 Description: Binary data

Package: cups Version: 2.4.1op1-2 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, first, I file my bugreport against "cups" as I don't know to which exact package it really belongs. The bug shows up in the print dialogue. *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? I wanted to print a document from within Libreoffice (gtk3) ** apt policy libreoffice-gtk3 libreoffice-gtk3: Installiert: 1:7.3.1-1 ** * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I opened the document which I wanted to print and clicked the file/print menue * What was the outcome of this action? printing menu opened. But when I tried to open one of the pulldown menue using one of the little triangular icons on the right the hidden scrollbar popped up overlapping the icon which thus could not been activated. Please Note: I use a much broader scrollbar than the default one. (I find the default ergonimically inapt). But this customisation was made one ore two years ago and never effected negatively any menue in whatever program. Until today when I wanted to print. So there must have been a change recently which now changes the behavior. * What outcome did you expect instead? Bug#982875: cups-printer-oki: could PPD file for okiB432 be included?
Package: cups-printer-oki Severity: wishlist Dear Maintainer, I am using a vendor PPD file for my OKI B432 printer, which is working well. The PPD file for the preceding model ( OKI B430 ) is included already, but not appropriate for the B432 model (borders not ok, no double side printing). The appropriate PPD file can be found here: https://www.oki.com/de/printing/support/drivers-and- utilities/?id=46398401FZ01=drivers-and- utilities=mono=45762012=ab33=ac5 but the license there seams rather restrictive. As other OKI PPD files are already included in your database I wonder if they could be asked to agree to include this file too to your database. Thanks M. Bug#982742: cups: config of usb printer now impossible due to usblp and libusb conficting (used to work!)
Package: cups Version: 2.3.3op2-3 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? I tried to install an USB printer (oki B432). * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? localhost:631/administration -> new printer * What was the outcome of this action? The printer is not listed anymore and thus I cannot select the neccesary ppd- file, which used to work this way years ago (2017-2019/20). It still works *reliably* on a debian/sid(uction) live_ISO from 2020.07. But on my up to date installation it does not work anymore: Investigating this on my computer I found the following: # uname -r 5.10.0-3-amd64 printer switched off: # lsmod | grep usb usbhid 65536 0 hid 147456 2 usbhid,hid_generic usbcore 323584 6 ehci_pci,usbhid,em28xx_dvb,ehci_hcd,em28xx,uhci_hcd usb_common 16384 3 usbcore,ehci_hcd,uhci_hcd # /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb DEBUG: Loading USB quirks from "/usr/share/cups/usb". DEBUG: Loaded 95 quirks. DEBUG: list_devices DEBUG: libusb_get_device_list=9 DEBUG: Switching USB device configuration: 0 -> 1 DEBUG: Failed to set configuration 1 for 06bc:0357 DEBUG: Failed to set alternate interface 0 for 06bc:0357: Connection timed out The difference I can't explain except for the following facts: Today I downgraded cups and relatives to the version (cups_2.3.3-1_amd64.deb) of the above Live_ISO. I added a missing package (libusbredirparser1). Initially it worked, i.e. the printer was visible and installable in the web admin panel after reloading the page some times. In the printing menue (for example libreoffice) the printer showed up once. After rebooting and updating the printer showed up with two slightly different names in the menues, and did not show up in the administration anymore. I updated, used different kernels, downgraded again. No more printer in the admin panel list. ***This is a longstanding problem, not just today!*** I still reliably can install and use the printer using the above mentioned live-ISO, but with my real installation, the few times I get it installed, it does not work, as cups is "waiting for the printer becomming available" (according to the cups job list), whereas the printer shows "ready to print" in its LED panel. Bug#969531: avahi-daemon: retrieving printer info blocks printing until shutdown
Package: avahi-daemon Version: 0.8-3 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** OKI printer B432, conected via USB, no network cable attached. * What led up to the situation? Want to print * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? select document, start print dialog, select my printer (config was done via CUPS); Now the printer appears a second time in the list with a different entry. If I select this new entry, I am asked for CUPS PW twice, then it (a deamon, whatever) starts retriving printer info which *never* completes. * What was the outcome of this action? Either way, selecting my own entry or the new one made by the daemon, the printer does nothing (I waited up to 45 minutes... until I shutdown my system. Them during shutdown, there is a pause during which the document gets printed. * What outcome did you expect instead? I want the printer to print after I sent the job. *** End of the template - remove these template lines *** There is a workaround: In the original /etc/avahi/avahi-daemon.conf file, there is an entry "#allow- interfaces=eth0". Changing and uncommenting it to "allow-interfaces=eth9" solves the problem (printer not conected via ethXYZ, though). Vyas jald...@debian.org: LANG=C DEBCONF_DEBUG=.* dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/dovecot-core_1%3a2.2.13-9_amd64.deb 21 debconf.log I assume this won't get you any valuable info as here the install did *not* hang. So after some further testing I think your latest version somehow did solve the problem without me noticing it because it *did* hang during the very first upgrade from 2.2.13-8 to 2.2.13-9 but did not hang reinstalling it. As I still have older versions in my archives (2.2.13-6 to 2.2.13-9) I downgraded to the oldest version, *** dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/dovecot-core_1%3a2.2.13-6_amd64.deb *** which was hanging during downgrade at the point it ever hangs, after restart of the IMAP server: ** [ ok ] Starting IMAP/POP3 mail server: dovecot. ** htop always showed dovecot-core.po in it's list doing nothing, all values being 0 except in column S where it was marked Z. This time I didn't kill dpkg (pkill dpkg in a new console) but simply run ctrl-C. Afterwards I could run dpkg --configure -a which apparently did what had to be done and finished with showing me the prompt. This happened with all versions from *13-6 to *13-8 . Same goes for dovecot-core.po . Only exception: your latest version where there was a problem only with the *very first* upgrade. Now during my tests I could upgrade this version without problems. Maybe todays dist-upgrade changed something in some somehow related package, I don't know. Bug#770695: Dovecot-core unable to finish its installation
I now found out how to trigger the bug even with your latest version. This explains why I saw the installation hanging the first time I installed v2.2.13-9 because I installed dovecot-core AND dovecot-imapd: *** dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/dovecot-core_1%3a2.2.13-9_amd64.deb *** does not cause a problem, *** dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/dovecot-core_1%3a2.2.13-9_amd64.deb /var/cache/apt/archives/dovecot-imapd_1%3a2.2.13-9_amd64.deb *** does cause the upgrade/installation to hang after the restart of the IMAP server. I can finish the installation by running ctrl-C followed by dpkg --configure -a. It seems dovecot-imapd must be tweeked, too. Bug#771545: reportbug-gtk hangs while gathering more information
Package: reportbug Version: 6.6.0 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? trying to use reportbug-gkt for filing a bug report concerning an other package (And I think you should give this package much, much more attention. Users of Debian who aren't skilled will never try agian to report a bug if the bug reporting utility does not work as it happened to be the case too many times within the last year. Yes the CL version can be used as a fall back. But it's not as easy as the gtk version. And although I am not a beginner I think twice before switching back from the gtk versions to the CL version as it involves editing the rc file manually. A beginner wouldn't even know how to switch back). * What was the outcome of this action? reportbug-gtk didn't finish gathering infos from my system. I then killed it, and instead of filing a bug report for I package I really need (dovecot-core) I am now sitting here caring about the functionality of the reportbug utility. -- Package-specific info: ** /home/mh/.reportbugrc: reportbug_version 6.6.0 mode standard realname Michael Hatzold email m.hatz...@web.de no-cc header X-Debbugs-CC: m.hatz...@web.de smtphost reportbug.debian.org -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.17-3.towo-siduction-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=de_DE.utf8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages reportbug depends on: ii apt 1.0.9.3 ii python2.7.8-2 ii python-reportbug 6.6.0 pn python:anynone reportbug recommends no packages. Bug#765283: gparted crashing during scan
Package: gparted Version: 0.19.0-1+b1 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? Opening gparted * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I open gparted with a meny enrty in fluxbox, or with Alt-F2 - su-to-root -X -c gparted or in konsole gksu gparted * What was the outcome of this action? The little window where you enter the root p/w closes but it seems it reapears for a fraction of a second. Then gparted window opens, it scans the devoces for partitions and crashes sonner or later. I have this instability *with this installtion* for a long time. It began with gparted not starting at the first attempt, it always needed a second one. Here I am confused: the above *is* the output of what happens when I try to play an *.mp4 with avplay. It completely hangs as it does when I try to play ***mp3***. No sound, nothing, it hangs until I press ctrl-c. avplay from DEBIAN does play nothing, not mp4, not mp3, not ogg (and there is no mp4 in the respective folder). So I am lost what else to do. After some test on the same hardware, but with a DEBIAN/sid(uction) live system it seems the problem has several parts: [...] We are talking about an up to date sіd/testing here. We dont't support older versions nor stable ones (only in security cases, though) Ok, I used this live test system to have a clean install. I try to have a new, fully updated live test system within the next days. If I succeed I will try without any DMO package. But as far as I can see so far it does not seem DMO to be involved with this problem. First conclusion: moc-ffmpeg-plugin has bug with mp4 Not directly. I explained the relation to libav above. Understood. Now on my regular installation avplay does not work as shown above. And this seems to be part two

If it's not what you wanted pls let me know what to do exactly. Thanks, that is what I wanted although it's not enough to figure out the problem - but Sven provided the missing info (thanks!). If you don't mind, could you try the following workarounds? The first is to drop the last softdep from oss-compat.conf (v3): softdep snd-pcm post: snd-pcm-oss softdep snd-mixer post: snd-mixer-oss This version is working for me. No delay during boot and working sound even with oss-depending software (wmmixer). That's the workaround provided by Sven, so it should work just fine. The second is to add a variant of the last softdep: softdep snd-pcm post: snd-pcm-oss softdep snd-mixer post: snd-mixer-oss softdep snd-seq post: snd-seq-oss Thisone is *not* working. Delay during boot an no sound. This will help determine whether the initialisation lock-up is related to loading snd-seq-midi... (Incidentally, the Debian kernels don't ship snd-seq-oss.) I don't use a Debian stock kernel, but a siduction kernel which is vanilla plus whatever patches siduction applies. In the hope of providing usefull info I attach: lsmod | grep oss lsmod.grep_oss.workaround1 (workaround #1 config) lsmod | grep oss lsmod.grep_oss.workaround2 (workaround #2 config) strace.workaround2 ( strace -f modprobe snd-seq-oss with workaround #2 config) If you need further testing, just let me know. Bug#660803: oss-compat 3 problems with udev and breaks audio
Package: oss-compat Version: 3 Followup-For: Bug #660803 Dear Maintainer, *** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? updating oss-compat form v2 to v3 * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? apt-get install oss-compat (pulled and installed v3, then reboot) * What was the outcome of this action? During boot a delay of more then one minute at udev [473] /sbin/modprobe -b pci. very large number after more than a minute: terminated by signal 9 (killed) - alsa error during boot no soundcard found/configured boot completes, but no sound, no soundcard. * What outcome did you expect instead? Working sound even with oss-dependent applications What I found out: - manually deleting /etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat.conf lets alsa configure the soundcard at next boot (but then applications depending on oss-compat won't work). - apt-get install oss-compat/testing *won't* work, as it does not replace /etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat.conf (v3) with /etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat.conf (v2) - apt-get install oss-compat/testing *will* work if you remove /etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat.conf beforehand. To me it seems that the new format of /etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat.conf is the main problem. And a sidenote: oss-compat (3) *recommends* osspd, which when installed *replaces* oss-compat (but leaves /etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat.conf at its palce). But then whether I remove /etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat.conf or not, plication dependign on oss wont work with ossdp. So here the only working solution is: manually remove /etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat.conf (v3) install oss-compat/testing (=v2) -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (900, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.9-2.towo-siduction-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages oss-compat depends on: ii kmod 9-3 Versions of packages oss-compat recommends: pn osspd none oss-compat suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#583171: pcmanfm prevents fluxbox desktop to load correctly
Am 28.05.2010, 06:46 Uhr, schrieb Andrew Lee ajq...@debian.org: michael hatzold wrote: Problem catched. not really You need to to select and enable wallpaper for the desktop setting. Run 'pcmanfm --desktop-pref' you may get the desktop preference. Despite these settings fluxbox desktop environment does not load the selected wallpaper neither the desktop icons. Instead, after each login, the pcmanfm --desktop-pref window shows up. The only improvement: after checking the respective checkbox fluxbox context menu is working again (i.e. without the pacmanfm context menu showing up). So it seams pcmanfm still conflicts with fluxbox settings. Thanks for your efforts. Greatings Michael I'd try to document this in README.Debian. Bug#583171: pcmanfm prevents fluxbox desktop to load correctly
Am 26.05.2010, 17:22 Uhr, schrieb Andrew Lee ajq...@debian.org: Hi, Please report to BTS instead of write me in private. I oversaw it at first. michael hatzold wrote: Did you use '--desktop' option with it? With fluxbox I use a startup file. There is an entry pcmanfm which opens pcmanfm in the background to speed up the start when I really need it. I use this since I have installed fluxbox time ago. I haven't use fluxbox myself. I assume you are answering my question that you didnot use '--desktop' option with it. I wasn't sure whether your question refered to fluxbox or pcmanfm. That's why I answered as I did. Now some strange observations: 1) When I comment out pcmanfm with the _new_ version, fluxbox desktop does not start completly (i.e no desktop BG and no icons) but pcmanfm doesn't open during fluxbox gets loaded. 2) Now, when I go back to the testing version and still comment out pcmanfm , it is the same, no BG and no icons and pcmanfm doesn't open during fluxbox gets loaded. 3) If I now enable again pcmanfm in the fluxbox startup file fluxbox starts with desktop BG an icons and pcmanfm not in foreground. I really do not understand this kind of interaction. Above all, # 2) makes no sense at all. What's the point above? The point is: pcmanfm interacts with fluxbox BG and wallpaper settings. As I see it, it should not and did not until the newest version. If there is any testing I could do, please let me know. Try to use 'pcmanfm --desktop ' instead. Using newest version with 'pcmanfm --desktop ' reveals an unwanted interaction between fluxbox and pcmanfm: 1) On startup fluxbox changes to the background colour, loads the desktop icons but _not_ my wallpaper. 2) Then, when I right click, the fluxbox menue opens _AND_ the pcmanfm context menue opens at the same time. Both windows overlap partially. If I can help with further testing, let me know (but maybe it is easier to install fluxbox, configure a BG and wallpaper and see yourself). Bug#563381: RFP: Poor Man's CMS -- Poor Man’s CMS (Poormans) is a very basic CMS
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Message-ID: 20100102120832.3853.22210.report...@localhost X-Mailer: reportbug 4.9 Date: Sat, 02 Jan 2010 13:08:32 +0100 X-Debbugs-Cc: m.hatz...@web.de * Package name : pmcms ( Poor Man's CMS ) Version : 2.0.2. Upstream Author : thilo schwarz em...@s-th.de * URL : http://poormans.sourceforge.net/ * License : GNU General Public License (GPL) Programming Lang: Java Description : Poor Man’s CMS (Poormans) is a very basic CMS running as a swt application and generating static html pages. Copied from the website: The word ’poor’ in Poor Man’s CMS stands for: Be ’poor’ on functionality. You don’t need any dynamic webspace. Because you can use a cheap static webspace, it’s for a poor man. ... My basic principle was: ’Keep it simple!’ And I think, I have created a small and clearly arranged mini application framework. Things, I don’t need: An editorial workflow. User management. A secure framework, because it runs locally. Things, I need: A WYSIWYG editor with basic functionality only. A flexible smart core system, which is easily to extend. A templating engine, which is powerful and simple to handle, especially the export to static html, creation of menus and so on. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
