On a ML installation when it gets to the part about where to put the boot
record the first sector is one of the options. How would this affect how the
machine boots?
What would be the reason to use the root partision for the boot instead of
the first sector of the MBR or a floppy?
no longer boot into windows and can not see any data on the windoze
partition while using ML.
Is there any way to retrieve the data that I think is probably still on the
windows partition ?

The User Agent Switcher in Firefox allows you to define your own string.
Doesn't that do what you need?
Also I'm pretty sure you can customise konqueror's user agent strings.
I'm just not sure where that data is kept.

In ML 10.0.2 and in 10.0 I sometimes get the message everything allready
installed when attempting to install a new RPM. The last time this happened I
was trying to install j2re. there was on java at all installed on this
machine.
Anyone here know how to solve this ?

the rest of the installation. All
went well. when I rebooted ML it worked great, as always. when I try to boot
to XP all get is a black screen with a flashing curser.
Anyone have any idea of what went wrong? Or how to fix it.

Obviously this can be changed, you just need to edit your httpd.conf file and
set the Document_Root= to where you want to put your files, but as is pointed
out above, most people put it in /var/www .

I used ltmodem rpm in the past, and it has to be combined with a kernel rpm.
I have not found a kernel rpm for 2.6.3-9 which is the latest.

I have never once had a problem with apt-get and dependencies. apt-get
install packagename and i have _never_ had a problem :p I had huge issues
with the port system though when for example installing exim :\ Source
compiling came into play ;-)

Yes you can make a w2k and xp machine a fat32 file system, it is not
reccomended, as the system can be and has been shown to be very unstable when
running on fat32, ntfs is alot better in terms of reliability and stability,
but then again windows has never been stable ;-)

But in all honesty if you have access to a legal copy of sophos, then I would
reccomend it over anything else. We have never had a single issue with it to
this day, and we have been using it for quite some time now !

I just downloaded the rpm file from source forge, then did:
urpmi fxload-2002_04_11-1.i386.rpm
I use fxload-2002_04_11-2mdk
