Actually, this is a music - a genre of dance music, that's made to be PLAYED FOR AN AUDIENCE SIMULTANEOUSLY/IN SEQUENCE WITH SIMILAR MUSIC as well as listened to - that's not a complex concept to grasp. The necessity of PLAYING, quite aside from merely listening is engendered in a whole marketing machinery which is aimed at people who PLAY this music as a form of occupation or avocation. (This is even tedious to write but it seems that it's necessary and the rudeness of some of those who appear to not understand this compared to the dovishness of those who do is quite remarkable) ...
Therefore, whilst no one wants to take an axe to anyone who wants to start their composition with a fade - (although, judging by some of the language used by their defenders, anyone who complains is worthy of an axing!) it seems like a fair enough desire to have music (for PLAYING remember) that is as convenient for that purpose as possible. >-----Original Message----- >From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] >Sent: Thursday, February 28, 2002 3:36 PM >To: Brian 'balistic' Prince >Cc: 313@hyperreal.org >Subject: Re: [313] Fade In Techno (how deep do you want this rut?) > > >I was just thinking about how odd this discussion is. > >Any other musician in any other genre makes music for one purpose, for ppl >to listen. > >Only in electronic music are producers expected to make music, not for >listening, but for other ppl to use as tools. > >i'm not a dj, but i think anyone who complains because a track fades in is >an arrogant ass. what makes you think that producers should be concerned >with your needs as a dj. if you don't like it, producer your own tracks. > >besides, anyone who 'needs' that opening kick to mix a record certainly >can't be that good of a dj. masters like mills barely play one minute of a >record, let alone the full 5. i'm sure he just smirks at you and shakes >his head. > > > >On Wed, 27 Feb 2002, Brian 'balistic' Prince wrote: > >> Producers bending their tracks to the will of the DJ is >> precisely why so much techno has been hurriedly chewing itself >> in an ever-deepening rut for the past few years. >> >> I like songs. >> >> Some of my tracks don't even start with drums. >> >> What nerve I've got. >> >> ------------- >> Brian "balistic" Prince >> http://www.bprince.com - art and techno >> "Strokes of Defiance EP" . . . soon >> >> >> >> --------------------------------------------------------------------- >> To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >> For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >> >> > > >--------------------------------------------------------------------- >To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
