Let's not rush to judgment on what Paxahau is planning and not planning to do before we get the facts. From what I’ve seen they always try to make everyone happy. I for one would not want to be in their shoes. The festival is very special to a lot of people and everyone has strong opinions on how it should be. It is easy to get worked up and emotional over it. It is the highlight of the year for many people. Last year they included a lot of acts who were excluded in the past. Even though most people on this list would agree they booked a bunch of crap last year, you can’t argue that some people in Detroit actually like that crap and it represents some of what happens in Detroit throughout the year. They even added acts last year when people complained that some aspects of Detroit weren’t represented initially.

Now if they would only get out to the PPH Lounge and Baker to Baker Hall and book some of those cats! ;)

They got Carl’s, Derrick’s and Kevin’s support. If these guys thought Paxahau would take the festival in wrong direction would they all have played last year? I highly, highly doubt that Detroit artists will only be on one stage. Yes, not everyone from Detroit has played the festival, but you can’t say that the vast, vast majority of influential Detroit artists haven’t played at least once. Life isn’t fair and someone is always going to feel excluded no matter the situation.

I am just thrilled that there will be some sort of announcement on the lineup relatively soon. It isn’t even May! They are obviously taking the festival very seriously and putting in the planning and thought it deserves.

That's a fallacy. DEMF was established to expose Detroit techno/house/etc.
to the world and celebrate how it has spread around the world. If that's
not what Paxahau intends anymore then they should change the name to the
one they've used before - "PEMF".
I know it's good to incorporate other artists outside of Detroit that have
been influenced by Detroit's sounds (see, that's plural - more than one
sound). If that didn't continue then there'd be a problem. However,
there's also a problem when fewer and fewer Detroit artists are booked for
it even though many Detroit artists continue to try to get booked but for
some reason or another aren't or aren't even asked.

My hope is, the "Detroit" stage is a place that at any time during the day
you can be guaranteed to see a Detroit artist, as opposed to the only place
you can see Detroit artists during the weekend. That's not exposure -
that's segregation. Like I said, I'm waiting for the announcement that was
supposed to happen yesterday and I'm curious as to why it didn't happen.
It wasn't even supposed to be the complete line-up, just a few names to
whet the appetite.
