It's not a music history, but it's a book featuring the compositional methods of detroit techno artists.
Seems like a pretty serious academic effort at capturing much of what compositional structures define founding techno, and some cultural comment. It was on the Indiana U press, which I gather is where a lot of the academic work that actually exists on the matter is centered.
